For the track to work properly, the sleepers need to sit
firmly in the ballast. When track has been heavily used or
has been re-layed, we need to remove all the voids & gaps
in the ballast so that the sleepers do not bounce up & down
as the trains pass over the rails.Tamping also puts the track
in the correct position. This allows trains to run over the
rails smoothly which reduces noise & vibration.

Over 200 residents voiced
outrage over freight trains running throughout the night. Local
residents banding together to present a collective voice to
Parliament
to get it stopped.
Is
the real answer for them to keep to their original promises, ie 7-8 trains per
day, and not run them (as promised and minuted)
between 23.00hrs to 6.00hrs?
Local MSP Richard Simpson agrees with the community and is doing
something about it in parliament. He agrees assurances and promises
have been broken. Locals were heard leaving the meeting in disgust
and frustration at the feeling that this evening was just a PR
exercise to let the locals vent off some steam.
Well,
here is a chance to do more than that and let them know
this problem
cannot be brushed under the carpet.
Voice Your opinion.
I
attended this very passionate meeting and I can only feel
sympathy for the residents along the Stirling - Alloa - Longannet
railway line. Stories of not being able to get a full night's
sleep,
TV's moving across the room, people living in fear of gas
explosions due to ongoing vibrations (and
much more) have prompted me to publish this webpage.
One of the most sensible suggestions was to "simply" (or
so you would think) get the freight trains to slow down in
pre-determined
sections of the track. This was met with a point blank refusal
by Network Rail who said "We cannot make false promises"...
Therefore,
I am opening up this page for residents to
use as a collective voice. I am now in the process of recording
videos of
people's
experiences and placing evidence on YouTube.com
Anyone feel free to do the same and spread the word. The more
comments and viewings this gets can only add to the public
pressure to get this nightmare sorted out. One resident invited
the Managing Director of Network Rail along to his house to
feel
the intensity
of the vibrations everyone is so angry about.
Get
out your video cameras and get recording your experiences and
put
it out
there on YouTube.com for the world to see.
The
more people who do this, the more your complaints and concerns
become real and in the face of all the powers that be.
